SwetsODV and Oceanwide Inland Shipping join forces to form staffing leader in inland shipping

Vlissingen, 29 July 2009

SwetsODV, a leader in the flexible employment market for nautical staff, and Oceanwide Inland Shipping, a specialist in the training and secondment of international inland shipping workers, are joining forces to create the Dutch staffing leader for the domestic and international inland shipping sector.

Under the agreement, Oceanwide Inland Shipping will be incorporated into SwetsODV (www.swetsodv.com) and will operate under the name SwetsODV Inland Shipping. The office staff of Oceanwide Inland Shipping in Vlissingen and Poznan, Poland, will be taken over by SwetsODV. Combining the activities of both parties creates a strong and specialized inland shipping organization capable of responding decisively and expertly to the growing demand in the market; an organization that is also able to offer its clients a wide array of interesting competences and opportunities, both domestically and internationally.

SwetsODV has further growth plans to establish a branch in the Czech Republic and Belgium, and is exploring possible acquisitions of staffing services companies in the inland shipping sector.

At the same time Humares, the parent company of Oceanwide Inland Shipping, will take a minority stake in SwetsODV Groep BV.

International Distance Matching

Active in inland shipping since 2005, Oceanwide Inland Shipping has built its reputation primarily on its 'International Distance Matching' concept. This concept is used to recruit shipping workers through the recruitment office in Poznan, Poland, and then second them to Dutch inland shipping vessels. Oceanwide uses the ‘Pick and Drop' concept to transport its employees all the way to the client's ships - wherever they are. En route to the ships there is intensive contact with the crew regarding the ship's itinerary and berthing locations so that workers can be brought aboard at the most convenient place. Oceanwide employs between 150 and 200 shipping workers.

International expansion

In a reaction, SwetsODV director Leendert van Halst said he is extremely pleased with the expansion. "The knowledge and experience of Oceanwide Inland Shipping are crucial to the further growth of SwetsODV. Its office in Poland with its proven track record clearly spoke in favour of our joining forces," Van Halst said. "This deal gives us the structure we need to further strengthen our market position in the Netherlands and Belgium by being able to serve our clients with an even more comprehensive range of services. We now have a mature and well-functioning total concept at our disposal for placing employees both domestically and internationally," he added. "The inland shipping sector is of course going through a rough patch at the moment, but our clients still need their crew members to be flexible. And we expect growth in the inland shipping sector to start picking up soon. SwetsODV is ready for it!"

Solid company

Alain Dehaze, CEO of Humares, also sees a bright future for the new SwetsODV: "The inland shipping sector is a market with enormous growth potential. Inland shipping is a clean and relatively cheap mode of transport which is moreover unaffected by Europe's increasingly gridlocked road network. This means the sector can look forward to strong growth in the years ahead. To keep up with this growth you need a solid company that can deliver solutions to meet growing demand. The integration of SwetsODV and Oceanwide Inland Shipping creates that company. The new combination brings together the strengths of both companies: the longstanding experience, network and scale of SwetsODV with the innovative power, 'International Distance Matching' concept and 'Apprentice concept' of Oceanwide Inland Shipping in Poland. This is what makes the new combination a market leader in the inland shipping sector."
